What To Expect

In our initial conversation about therapy, I will ask you some basic questions about your presenting concerns. We’ll also check to make sure I fit with your insurance and schedule. We will schedule an appointment, if this seems appropriate, discuss fees and methods of payment (cash, check, credit card, insurance). Before your appointment, you’ll be asked to fill out some paperwork. Please bring these with you to your first appointment. This is common practice among psycholgists and anxiety and OCD specialists.

Acting in the best interest of my clients, I always conduct a thorough history and evaluation. Generally, this takes one to three sessions. The first intake session is 60-minutes and following sessions are usually 50-minutes for individual clients. For couples, the first intake session is 60 minutes and at that point, we can assess whether a 90-minute appointment is desirable. It is also my policy to review the limits of confidentiality and certain office policies. You’ll be encouraged to tell me your story of what brought you to see me. I will ask you a number of follow-up questions. At the end of the intake process, we will talk about my observations and discuss treatment options. At that time and throughout our work together, questions are always welcome. If we agree to work together, we’ll develop a treatment plan which will organize how we will spend our time together.
